Regarding brown rice -- until a few months ago, I used an alcohol stove. I put the rice in the water as it (slowly) heats to boiling, then put the hot water/rice mixture in the instant refried beans. By the time the beans are rehydrated, the rice is done. Now that I have a canister stove.... May have to cook the rice a few minutes/boiling, before adding to beans. Add a taco bell packet and corn chips and a tortilla, and you have a flavorful meal. (Or add extra water to the beans/rice and you have soup).
Couscous with cinnamon, dried strawberries from my garden & honey and butter packets is a very quick breakfast.
