Sectionhiker.com just reviewed a 1P bivy-style tent from Eureka.

That might be the way to go for a boy scout. Under $100 and still light-weight.

Thanks for the inputs! I think my son's scout troop requires 2 per tent, so solo tents are out.

That's odd. I thought they had moved past that. A lot of troops are starting to standardize on hammock camping. By necessity that is 1 scout per.
