I just retired my incredible pair of Oboz hiking shoes.
After 3 years, they are still in decent shape but are beginning to become undone; pretty sure going around Mt. Adams last year was the death blow.
What can you do with an old pair shoes besides throw them away?
For practical and nostalgic reasons, I don't want to just throw these shoes in the trash (or over a telephone wire) - we've been through so much together, it feels like losing a hiking partner. I also wonder if they can be recycled? I hate throwing things away.
Any ideas?

Re: Hiking Shoes RIP
The pair that wore out before my current pair are now worn when I mow the lawn, something I need to do before it starts raining again. The uppers are raggedy, but there's enough tread left on the soles to grip the grass.
