I'm half tempted to recreate the photo with a Happy Birthday balloon hanging from one of the branches.
The route doesn't interest me enough to make it worth the effort.

Chip, you don't know what you're missing. The bushwhack out to the north end of the ridge is entertaining enough itself and the rest of the trail past the ridge is great fun. Of course, coming back, you might head straight down towards the 400 trail like the wayward hiker seemed to do, just to show us how it's done.

Imagine how guilty you guys will feel when I meet my demise attempting Don's challenge.

No worries - I'll do it with you.

Edit: There would have to be some serious negotiation on start time! :) Then again, since you have shown an ability to get up in the middle of the night, hike for 12 hours and more, have a couple of beers and find your way back, in the dark, often off-trail, I can't imagine how anything bad could happen to you on a hike like this.
