"Hey man, the rules don't apply to me"

"CASCADIA, Ore. (AP) - A popular swimming spot along the McKenzie River has been closed due of wildfires but that hasn't stopped people from trying to reach its sapphire waters.
The Register-Guard reports that federal law enforcement officers have cited about 30 people for violating the fire area closure.
Officials closed access to Tamolitch Pool, known as Blue Pool, because of a 60-acre burning in the area. The fire, which started July 27, is still smoldering in hard-to-reach spots in the vicinity of the pool.
A spokeswoman for the firefighting team, Alexis West, says penalties for violating the closure could include a $500 fine and up to six months in jail. She says the closure will continue at least through the end of August.
The McKenzie River emerges from an underground channel into Blue Pool, making the sapphire water an attraction for visitors.
Fire officials say when firefighters must escort violators out of the closed area it causes unnecessary delays in their suppression efforts."
Blue Pool - Fines
Re: Blue Pool - Fines
I realize the 6-month incarceration is a theoretical thing unlikely to actually happen, but if I was jailed for six months because I went on a hike, that would be enough to tip me over the edge, plunging me into spending the rest of my life doing everything I could to cause misery and suffering for every federal employee I ever encountered. It would be year after year after year of violent retribution, the likes of which have rarely been seen in US history.
Yeah, I'm a powder keg just waiting to be set off.

If you start hiking in one of these, we'll know that it has begun:I realize the 6-month incarceration is a theoretical thing unlikely to actually happen, but if I was jailed for six months because I went on a hike, that would be enough to tip me over the edge, plunging me into spending the rest of my life doing everything I could to cause misery and suffering for every federal employee I ever encountered. Re: Blue Pool - Fines
I was out there this weekend with my kids. We got to see Sahalie Falls but I was disappointed that we could not legally view the Blue Pool. I would have been a bad father to flagrantly flaunt the law in front of my kids just to see it.
Re: Blue Pool - Fines
Forester, is that cotton? I don't hike in cotton.
I'd never heard of Blue Pool until I saw this thread, so it's funny that I ran across this today at Whole Foods:

Brewed in Springfield, so I assume it's in reference to this Blue Pool.

Re: Blue Pool - Fines
beautiful label on that beer.. and they actually have made a bourbon barrel version. Now normally that makes a beer all boozy and potent, but it didn't really up the abv at all and just gave it a very pleasant subtle barrel character--must have been a 3rd or 4th use barrel. Wish I could get more of that!

I cannot accept a world of ignorance and misbehavior without consequences. That sets the bar so low anyone can stumble over it.
Allowing people to ignore restrictions should require (1) no one can be liable for your errors in judgement and thus suing someone in court for your injuries has been eliminated from the equation, and (2) search & rescue is no longer an option because your actions clearly state that your life doeesn't matter.
Since so many people who proceed ignorantly and selfishly past the "do not enter" signs get into trouble (duh) and cannot dial 911 fast enough. Thus, the two caviats (stateed above) for "do as you wish" people just don't seem to work. They want protection, but aren't willing to exercise due dilligence. So, no Chip Down, you don't get to wear the Halloween shirt and you don't get to just lose it, you have to wait at the trailhead with the rest of us until next year. Sorry, your still part of society (as inconvenient as it is).
