Missing hiker near Jefferson Park
Re: Missing hiker near Jefferson Park
If you want an example of where some of the most insanely ignorant people in the state of Oregon hang out, read the O-live comments (on this or most any story for that matter...lol..).

Big area for SAR to search

Re: Missing hiker near Jefferson Park
This morning's update says they think he might've tried to summit Mt Jefferson. Which might help explain why the steady stream of people thru there have not seen him..
Re: Missing hiker near Jefferson Park
His father has been posting updates on Facebook, including a possibly sighting near Mt. Hood and this picture with the description below:
"After gathering all the things he wanted to gather from the car we headed back to the town of Detroit. At 5 o'clock Lieutenant Baldridge called Erin and me into the command center.
Most of the key officers were gathered around. They showed us this photo which we believe is Riley and his REI tent. This was taken by a hiker who just happened to think it was odd someone was camping where Riley was camping. He then saw a search flyer and send the photo to the sheriffs department. This photo has been seen by five or six people who know Riley and his gear and they all confirmed they think it is him and his tent. His very sweet Portland roommate Anthony showed up here in Detroit and confirmed with the sheriffs department that he believes that is Riley and the tent as well."
Hopefully he decided against summitting and went on impromptu section hike of the PCT.

Re: Missing hiker near Jefferson Park
I was up in jefferson park on Sunday. The search is very extensive. Spoke in length with 2 backcountry rangers (eric and marc) and 2 different sets of searchers on horseback.
On sunday, the helicopter was very focused on a ridge up on Jeff, above the park. They spent a ton of time there, then the chopper left. Was hoping they found him.
Orange is the right color tent.
I was told a different brand though.
Hoping this lead is right and they find him soon. C'mon riley!!

Hard to say from on high, but does look like the tent in the photo is set up on a snow bridge.
Hope he's found safe & sound.

Reportedly, that is Sprague Lake he's camped on. Picture was taken on Friday.

Such a weird place to camp. Besides the risk of the ice being thinner than it appears, why camp on wet snow when there are so many bare, dry sites? Obviously nothing went awry at this location because that lake has probably been searched very well by this point and the ice is probably still intact or he would have been found in the lake days ago and the search would be over. But regardless, a funny place to camp.
