Jasmine Zimmer-Stucky, a senior organizer with Columbia RiverKeeper, told ThinkProgress. "They (City of Mosier) used the democratic process to pass a resolution, they have been active in public comment periods on fossil fuel transportation for years, their citizens are part of a broader, region-wide coalition. They’ve done everything right, and yet they still experienced this horrific tragedy in their community."

I'm certainly no expert on this but, I believe we have always been more a representative democracy or even a republic than a true democracy.Something more important to think about. Our democracy is in trouble. USA is on the threshold of losing its identity as a "full democracy" and could soon be officially labeled a "flawed democracy". It wouldn't take much.Yes indeed, the democratic process is broken in the USA and everyone needs to understand how bad things are here.
Hmmm, seems to be widespread agreement on the right that it's actually gone to socialist hell, while the left sees us tumbling mindlessly towards fascism.windmtnpete wrote:Nobody seems to agree just where this thing is going.
