Wildlife Center gives Birds and Animals a Second Chance

OLNEY, Ore. - For fawns that lose their mother and birds with a hurt wing, becoming prey is a fact of life.
Fortunately, there is a hospital on the Oregon coast that not only rescues wild animals in need of help but also nurses them back to health if they are injured.
The Wildlife Center of the North Coast is a private, non-profit organization operated solely by volunteers. Executive Director Sharnelle Fee is the heart behind the center. The Center serves an area from Waldport to Astoria, as well as all of southwest Washington and the Columbia River basin. They help all native birds and animals.
The center is open 7 days a week, 365 days a year and volunteers are always welcome.
Most of the injuries are from encounters with humans and that's the tragic thing," said Dr. Virginia Huang, who volunteers at the center. "That's one of the reasons that I'm so inspired to go volunteer there. They get hit by cars, they get hit by windows. They get caught in fishing nets. They're ingesting plastics from all the trash that is out there in the ocean. And all of these impact on their survival...
