HK B2 Jul 30 (Wed) McNeil Point (Top Spur to Tie-In) (W). Margaret Smith Pre Hike to Summit We’ll go up as far as the melting snow will allow hopefully just above the shelter to a wonderful view of the summit. 9 miles 2900 ft. Dr. 100 TH pass, depart MMC 8 a.m.

SR A1, A2, A3 Jul 31 (Thu) Portland Street Rambles. Leaders to be announced. Contact Mazamas office (503) 227-2345. Groups hike the streets and parks of NW Portland. Groups larger than 20 will be split. Total time two hours. Leave from REI-PDX at 6 p.m. 4-8 miles 500-1500 ft. Dr. 0.

HK A1 Aug 02 (Sat) Wahkeena-Multnomah Creeks Loop. Greg Justice (503) 720-4053 .Kids OK! Join me and my children (ages 2-1/2 and 8 years) for a beautiful, family-friendly hike amid lots of waterfalls. We’ll go slow enough for kids of all ages and take frequent breaks, but please note the 5.4 mile hike length. 5.4 miles 1650 ft. Dr. 48 ,depart Gateway 9 a.m.

HK B2 Aug 02 (Sat) Larch Mountain Crater with Oneonta. Jim Selb.y Larch Crater is a very pretty place in early August, especially with a short side-trip down Oneonta Trail. We will go at a steady pace but take time to enjoy the scenery. You will still be back at Gateway by 4 pm. 9 miles 1600 ft. Dr. 58, TH pass, depart Gateway 8:30 a.m.

HK C2 Aug 02 (Sat) Paradise Park (W). Rich Conser Pre Hike to Summit. Classic wildflower hike to Plaque Rock with return via Pacific Crest Trail to Timberline Lodge 12.5 miles 2300 ft. Dr. 110, depart Gateway 7:30 a.m.

HK C3 Aug 02 (Sat) Green Point Mountain - Casey Ck Loop (W). Sean Smith 503-706-3920 Pre Hike to Summit. Maybe the snow will be gone for this hard Gorge hike. Five mountain view at our lunch spot if weather is good but we may do a back up hike if weather is bad. 19.6 miles 4700 ft. Dr. 80, TH Pass, depart 7:30 a.m. Call Leader for details


HK A2.5 Aug 03 (Sun) Siouxon Creek (W). Kibbey Rock. Beautiful hike in a canyon thru ancient forest along Siouxon Creek. Should be cool and inviting on a hot day. May take a dip in the creek after the hike. Bring lunch and change of clothes. 7.8 miles 700 ft. Dr. 82 ,TH Pass, depart Park & Ride NE 134th St, Vancouver, WA. 9 a.m. 503-227-2345.


HK B2 Aug 03 (Sun) Cape Horn. Viviane deBros This hike has it all: forest, fields, rocks, waterfalls, and many fantastic views of the Gorge. 7 miles 1400 ft. Dr. 55, depart Gateway 8 a.m.


HK C2 Aug 03 (Sun) Tilly Jane/Cooper Spur (W). Daniel Van Rossen Pre Hike to Summit. We will go up the Tilly Jane trail through forest and meadows to the historic Tilly Jane Camp buildings. From there we enter wilderness and hike above timberline. We will pass the climber’s shelter and proceed to tie-in-rock. This hike has a lot of elevation gain but it will not be a race to the summit. I plan to go at a good moderate pace with breaks to enjoy the beautiful scenery found on the east side of Mt. Hood. Plan on a full day outing. 13.4 miles 4800 ft., Dr. 166, TH Pass, depart from Mazama Mountaineering Center 8 a.m.

SR A2 Aug 06 (Wed) Vancouver WA Street Rambles. Kibbey Rock (360) 694-5942 Walk up and down hills in Vancouver, WA. We’ll go at a slightly more than moderate pace starting at 6pm and will be done close to 8pm. Please sign-in starting 5:45 p.m. We’ll leave at 6 p.m. promptly. We should cover about six miles with 500 ft of elevation gained. Meet in front of parking lot at Fort Vancouver Site, 1001 5th St., Vancouver, WA. Park on road outside the gate as their parking lot closes at 5p.m

HK B2 Aug 06 (Wed) Silver Star Mountain - Ed’s Trail. Neal Keefer Pre Hike to Summit. Hike scenic Ed’s Trail over wildflower meadows passing through a small natural arch to Silver Star summit. On the return loop we will check out old native vision quest sites. 8.7 miles 2100 ft. Dr. 70, TH Pass, depart Mazama Mountaineerg Ctr. 8:30 a.m.

Wed, Aug 6 - Evening Ramble: Blackberry Bramble
Gorge on the blackberries along this leisurely hike. We’ll follow the Murray Hill Powerline Park from Scholls Ferry Road north to a high point where Mt Hood visible on clear days. Bring a headlamp just in case - and serious blackberry pickers should wear long sleeves to avoid the thorns. Bring a bucket or container to carry some berries home! This is a day ride out of Willamette Mission State Park. The ride distance will be about 40 miles. We will tour the South French Prairie probably including Mt. Angel area for lunch. We can adjust the ride based on weather and participants interests.

We will beat the crowd to the 100 year celebration of Multnomah Village on August 8-17. We'll go past my childhood home and then on to Gabriel Park for a snack or lunch before returning to the village.

Sierra City Strolls; July 22, 29 ,Aug 5, 12, 19, 26
Join us any July or August Tuesday evening for a 2 - 3 mile "Sierra City Stroll." We'll walk through popular areas like NW 23rd Street, the Pearl District and explore close in city parks and trails. After our walk we can sample neighborhood cusine depending upon interest. Meet us no later than 6:00 p.m. at the Portland Goose Hollow/Jefferson Max stop at 19th and Jefferson. The Red or Blue line heading West will get you there. We'll be "Sierra City Strolling" from 6:00 - 7:30 pm.

July 31-August 3 (Thursday-Sunday). Ladies Backpack to the Three Sisters Wilderness. Moderate/7 miles to base camp/ 2 day hikes of 10 miles each/5500’- 6200’- 7000’, depending on conditions.
This outing includes three nights of base-camping and two day hikes in the Three Sisters Wilderness. We'll meet mid-day at a trailhead off Cascade Lakes Highway and backpack north along the Pacific Crest Trail, making camp in about 7 miles. Over the next two days we'll day hike further into the Wilderness, exploring Linnton Meadows as far as Eileen Lake and the rugged saddle between Middle and South Sister where spectacular views reward tired legs. Our last day we’ll return to the same trailhead by 2 pm. This outing is for experienced women backpackers who can backpack 6-10 miles over moderate terrain. Because of late snowmelt, unpredictable weather, and unknown trail conditions, participants should be flexible and prepared for possible route changes. Leader approval is required and group size will be limited to 8 participants. Complete the Backpacker Approval form and submit the fully completed form to the leader no later than July 21. Approved participants will receive a detailed itinerary, directions to the trailhead, and an equipment list.

Sun., Aug. 3 - Hike - HERMAN CREEK-INDIAN POINT from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM. Contact leader for announcement of location and directions. This is an intermediate to difficult 8 mile loop up Nick Eaton Ridge with a 2600 ft. elevation gain. The guide book talks about a final 30' scramble up an exposed rock pinnacle. Sounds like the Ruckel Ridge catwalk. Lots of flowers and a view of the tip of Mt. Hood and Bonneville Dam. 6-8 hours on the trail. A good preparation for the Mount St. Helen's hike later in August. SUN.Aug. 3rd- Vancouver Historical Walk Walk Leader: Lois Duvall Meet at 1pm under the Interstate Bridge. From I-5, take the City Center exit and then take the first left to the Red Lion parking lot. Meet in the outer lot near the street. We will tour through the city center, cross I-5 on Evergreen passing parade grounds, short visit to the US Park Ranger Museum and RR. On down past the Fort and Pierson airfield taking a path back to the mighty Columbia River and then west toward our cars. We will then enjoy a late afternoon lunch or early supper at Joe’s Crab Shack.
