another hiker passed this info on to me, sounds fun and for a worthy cause! :

Sunday, Sept. 7th - Clackamas River Clean-Up

This is a REALLY fun day and great event!! You get out on/in the water, hang out with great people, clean up a river, drink beers, eat burgers, listen to live music, and win cool stuff. I've been and it is everything it's cracked up to be. Last year we hauled 2.5 tons of crap out of the river. 2.5 TONS! Please come out, contribute, and enjoy!!

Some basic info from the organizers: Please mark Sun Sept 7th on your calendars to come out and join a crew of 300 rafters, kayakers, snorkelers, anglers, scuba divers and swimmers to haul away all the garbage left behind on the suburban stretches of the Clackamas River. The day is a BLAST! Seriously. You join a pod of ecclectic river runners to clean a 1 mile stretch of river, snort Clackamas River water and paddle into a festival of fresh, yummy BBQed foods by New Seasons and Next Adventure.
Music by Mississippi Studios AND to boot? We have the most robust silent auction EVER this year with pretty amazing donations from a kagillion outdoor companies and river outfitters including NRS, Keen, North Face, Columbia, Liquid Logic, AIRE, Yakima, Ruff Wear...and on and on and on. All of the proceeds go to future community river clean ups in the region and on-going year-round efforts to curb our littering problem on our riverways. Stay tuned on http://www.clackamasrivercleanup.org!

Some of the details: The Clean up is on the lower Clackamas from Barton down to the mouth at Clackamette Park. Everyone will run one 6-7 mile stretch and clean up garbage along 1 mile with their pod (team).
People can bring their own boat (kayak, canoe, etc) to paddle the class II/II+ rapids, or sign up to ride in one of the event rafts.

Everyone needs to pre-register. More information and registration will be up at http://www.DowntheRiverCleanUp.org by Aug 4th. NOTE ::: We are seeking volunteers to help guide the “Pods” down the river. If you are able to fill any of these roles, please contact Kristin Dahl at [email protected]:

Pass it on! Thanks!
