Post by justpeachy » April 18th, 2023, 8:42 am

You may know that Trailkeepers of Oregon does trail work, but there are other volunteer opportunities as well. Read on!

Trail Ambassadors

More information and online training

Trail Ambassadors volunteer at popular trailheads in the Columbia Gorge, Mt. Hood, and the northern region of Oregon’s coast. Volunteers participate in order to give back to the trails they love by engaging with visitors around safety, ethical use of public lands, and Leave No Trace practices, as well as sharing opportunities for visitors to engage with local communities.

Wilderness Ambassadors

In-person training on Saturday, April 29, 8:30am to 4:30pm

Wilderness Ambassadors are a special type of volunteer. Experts at public engagement and education, these adventurous folks head out on some of the most beloved wilderness trails on Mt Hood and in the Columbia River Gorge to share Leave No Trace principles, hiking etiquette, and trail stewardship with trail users.

These volunteers also gather data on physical and social trail conditions, perform some lights stewardship projects, and help to train new Wilderness Ambassadors as they enter the program.

This day long training will cover all the specifics of the Wilderness Ambassador program. Topics covered will include safety procedures, advanced public engagement techniques, hike scheduling, and data reporting.
