Search & Rescue - Applications are open in Clackamas County

Post by OregonSurveyor » October 20th, 2020, 10:34 am

Hi Folks,
Many of you have probably followed the story of the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office starting their own SAR team, CSAR (Clackamas Search and Rescue). We've spent the last 6 months forming the nucleus of a team with OSSA (Oregon State Sheriff's Association) certified people from other teams and we are now accepting applications for new non-certified people who would like to get in on the ground floor of this great organization!
We will do background checks and interviews this fall and hope to start an "Academy" after the first of the year. People could be field eligible for searches within a couple of months.
I'd be happy to answer any questions about the process and the commitment required. We have found over the years that the ideal candidates have great autonomy over their schedule (i.e., self-employed, retired, very flexible work schedule, supportive employer). They have complete family support (you'll be leaving at 2AM with no certainty of when you'll return). Reliable transportation; car-pooling rarely works for missions. Disposable income, you don't need to be wealthy, but you will spend money! And most of all, an excellent attitude toward hard work, discomfort, changed plans and dumb people :) ! We are looking for people that could commit to monthly trainings, monthly classroom meetings and at least 15 missions a year (we have 50-60 missions/year).
What do we have to offer you? If you've ever been a part of a successful team you know the camaraderie that is formed in the middle of hard work. Whether you were in the military, wildland fire fighter or part of a state championship football team, you know that feeling! If you are older, it will keep you fit and engaged with younger people. You will see parts of Clackamas County that many will never go to (granted it might be in the dark). And when you finally have "that mission" where you literally save someone's life you will be hooked forever!
We are still getting our website up to speed: www.ClackamasSAR.org
Give me a call or email if you would like to explore the possibility!
