CH-CH Challenge

I dreamed this up while lying awake one night. Let me know if you think this is a nightmare because of COVID-19...

The concept is to hike all of the main summits on the Washington side of the gorge from Cook Hill to Cape Horn, hence CH-CH. This is my individual challenge, but other can join. My definition of this challenge is very loose.

It was meant to:
• Get people out into the fresh air.
• Help me lose 5 pounds of winter hibernation fat!
• Get your mind off Coronavirus

The idea is to hike a list of 10 peaks from Cook Hill to Cape Horn, East to West or not….

The peaks are:
1. Cook Hill
2. Dog Mountain
3. Augspurger
4. Wind Mountain
5. Greenleaf Peak
6. Table Mountain
7. Hamilton Mountain
8. Hardy Ridge
9. Archer Mountain
10. Cape Horn – Can’t hike whole loop until after July15 but can hike to the top.

Here is the mileage and elevation gain from the trailhead as defined on Oregon Hikers Guide. For Greenleaf, I had to make a guess at mileage and elevation gain.

This was just my definition of the list. If you want to add or subtract some, that is OK. I know Chip recently showed us Skamania Mountain, but I am not including it. You can.

RULE: There are no rules!

GUIDELINES:
• No big groups. Keep your distance.
• Hike all peaks from East to West, or not.
• Start at established trailheads, or not. As an example, for Greenleaf, I may start at the powerline on the East side of Greenleaf.
• Post your results on Oregon Hikers Guide, or not.
• No end date.

PRIZES: None, unless I can convince someone to donate a unique can of beer.

I imagine some people that frequent this site could have this done in a short period of time. For me it will take a while.

Just make sure you use the Smith-Cripe Road access for Archer Mountain. Going in from Duncan Creek is verboten, to protect the area from nasty weeds.

Thanks Adam. Yes I always use Smith-Cripe Road for access to Archer...

For bonus points, do off-trail ascents. ;)
Wind Mountain is particularly rewarding, as one can hike from river to summit.
[edit: Maybe not from the river, as that would entail trespassing. But SR14 is pretty much at the river, so close enough. Same can be said of Dog Mountain and Cook Hill.]

No. Over any timeframe you desire. Now that all these trails are closed as they are all in Skamania County, the start will be sometime in the unknown future. This is one of the unknown, unknowns.
