Volunteers wanted for trail work parties at Indian Heaven

Post by Ryan Ojerio » August 27th, 2014, 2:56 pm

Hello Hikers,

we've got two different events coming up this fall - the perfect time to be out at Indian Heaven in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. The cool nights will have knocked back the mosquitoes and the fall colors will have bloomed. Volunteers wanted for a day or two days; each event features a Saturday night potluck and free campout. I recommend going on a hike one day and volunteering the other to make a weekend out of it. Carpooling is available for those who opt for it.

No prior experience is necessary, just a willingness to give back to trails and have fun working with new people! WTA provides the main dish for the potluck as well as all tools and instruction.

Cultus Creek Camp - Sawtooth Mt. Trail - Sept. 13/14
The Sawtooth Mountain Trail #107 is a scenic detour for the PCT at the northern end of the Wilderness. The trail offers spectacular views of Mt. Adams and Mt. St. Helens just a day hike from Sawtooth Huckleberry Fields. But the south side of the Mt. is heavily brushed over, come lend a hand brushing back the bushes to restore the trail.

Cultus Creek Camp - Cultus Creek Trail - October 4/5
The Cultus Creek Trail is the gateway ascent to a variety of lakes and Lemei Rock. But when trails go up, water must come down; this crew's task will be to restore drainage on the trail tread to prevent erosion.
