Volunteers making beautiful trails at Whipple Creek Park

Post by Ryan Ojerio » July 23rd, 2014, 4:33 pm

Hi folks,

I'm looking for volunteers to lend a hand with our August 1/2 Day AM work parties out at Clark County's Whipple Creek Park. (We work near town projects every 1st and 3rd Saturday through October.) Here are the dates coming up:

Whipple Creek Park
August 2nd, Saturday
9am - 12 pm

We've been working the the Whipple Creek Restoration Project and Clark County to design and build reroutes to convert some of the nastiest mud holes into really nice all-season trails. For those not familiar with the park, there are many short loop options that are perfect for a quick hike or after work trail run. Here are some pictures of the work we've done.

- Thanks for looking, I hope to meet you out there, Ryan

Many trails suffer from lack of drainage and a history of having wood chips spread upon them. The resulting decomposed organic matter holds water into the summer.

This is on the South Ridge Loop where we plan to work next.

At one particularly steep spot, we had to build a new switchback

The Chinook Trail Association donated the use of their motorized toters and the County got us the gravel.

The finished switchback has a railing to make is safer for some of the less experienced horses that sometimes ride in the park.
