Hello Hikers,
with the Gov. Shutdown keeping us from volunteering at National Forests, I headed out to Beacon Rock to scout out work. Hardy Ridge is getting a bit overgrown and a couple switchbacks are in rough shape. So we're hosting a work party this Saturday. Please consider giving back to trails!
From the Equestrian Campground we'll carpool past the gate so we only have to hike about 1/2 mile before getting to work.

This section on the east side is really nice.

The brush on the uphill side is pushing hikers off the tread.

Here the tread is completely off and the switchback behind all the vine maple has fallen apart.

On the west side it follows this steep, rocky old skid road. We've been rerouting it a section at a time to get a more sustainable grade.
