Hi
My Name is David.
I am interested in hiking the Timberline trail in Mid August time line, and would be very interested in
hiking with someone.
I am from NYC, and will be doing several hikes prior to this trip in Washington state.
I have all my own gear.
I prefer to hike with someone, than by myself. I am in good shape and looking forward to do this hike.

Dave

That's just a bit early but the snow seems to be melting off pretty good, there'll probably be a lot of people then. There are places where multiple people camp nearby so you don't have to go with anyone.

Would the 4th week of August( apx Aug 20-23) be a better time.
do you need a permit ahead of time, or can you get it on the spot?
I would like to do this in 4 days, to enjoy the hike, I can do 10-12 miles a day based on terrain.

yeah, late August better. Less snow. Stream flow less.

there should be some useful trip reports here before then.

permit self registered at trailhead

4 days is good. 38 miles an 9000 feet elevation gain total

Any thoughts on getting everything cleared with all the blow downs? Think it’ll be cleared as normal? Or was it so bad that it may not be cleared this summer?

I have not heard of any blowdowns.

The massive ice/wind storm made the west side impassable.

there should be some useful trip reports before mid August

maybe everything will get cleared enough or alternate routes

for example, rather than going on the Timberline Trail between Yocum Ridge and the Muddy Fork, maybe take the PCT instead

Someone created a great story map about the catastrophic blowdown in that area: https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/f5 ... e821dc8373

I first saw it posted on the r/portland subreddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/Portland/comme ... or_hikers/. I think it may have been posted to PortlandHikers on facebook, too.
