This is how the permissions are set -

I've tested in a couple different browsers, its not letting you place a pin without being signed in. So I'd guess this is some sort of google issue. Unless other people are able to do it, without using an account, and its just a me and you issue webfoot.

I also had to sign in to add a pin so it's not just you two.

Send your desired coordinates to someone who has already added a pin and ask them to add one for you.
