America’s State Parks First Day Hike: Mosier Twin Tunnels

Looking for a hike on New Years Day? Posting this on behalf of Steve Kruger at Oregon State Parks:
________________

Start the new year off right with a guided hike led by some smiling, green pant wearing folk! America’s State Parks First Day Hikes launched in all 50 states on January 1st, 2012 with the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail staff being a founding partner. Take part in the 4th year of this national event which is one of hundreds of hikes across the nation. We will have coffee/cocoa, trail snacks, and a commemorative lapel pin for the first 30 participants to arrive.

THE HIKE - An easy 3-mile, out and back stroll to the Mosier Twin Tunnels. Great for all ages with a guest talk on Snowbound, the story of a treacherous snow storm that trapped travelers during a 1921 snow storm. This paved surface trail ribbons through highlands of the Columbia River Gorge with wonderful views along the way. Be prepared with weather appropriate clothing, a water bottle, and a trail snack. Rain (snow) or shine.

WHEN/WHERE: Meet before 10AM at the EAST gate on the Mosier-side of the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail. Day-use fees are waived for all participants and parking is available at the EAST Mark O. Hatfield Trailhead. The hike will begin promptly at 10AM.

Looking forward to seeing you there – please pass this along to others as you see fit. Happy New Year!
