Three Sisters Fishing

Post by Leprechaun » August 28th, 2014, 11:10 am

Planning on doing the loop around 3 sisters this weekend. Plan to bring either an ultralight spinner or my 5wt fly rod. Can anyone suggest flies or lures to me? I need to look into regulations, can I keep any of those trout?

See you on the trail,
Lep

Small black Rooster Tails, green Frog Flatfish, and Panther Martins (black with yellow spots) usually are reliable for me; as far as flies go, I usually do OK with a Joe's Hopper or a Wooly Bugger or similar wet fly. Sometimes small Adams or similar dry flies will work well if the fish are rising. Just depends on what the fish are up to. The trickiest part can be just getting the lures/flies out a decent distance from the lakeshore.

I think most of the high lakes are a 5 per day limit, minimum 8" length; I'd check the ODFW regulations for Central Oregon for specific lake/creek information, but I don't really recall any, but worth a check. You'll probably find mainly Brook Trout, and some Cutthroat Trout as well.

Have fun!
