Pueblo Mountains in June

Post by MariposaMan » April 17th, 2014, 3:33 pm

Hi Folks,

Anyone up for the Pueblo Mountains this June?

I'm planning a 5-day backpack of the Pueblos for June 15-19 and welcome others to join me. The intended route, described in Douglas Lorain's Backpacking Oregon, follows the Oregon Desert Trail from Fields to Denio. Total mileage, including side trips, is approximately thirty, and the maximum elevation gain is about 8200'. A car shuttle is required (20 or so miles).

This should be a good time to view wildflowers and avoid potential snowpack issues at the higher elevations. My selected departure date isn't set in stone; I may decide to hit the trail up to a week earlier, depending on the weather and availability of interested parties. Time permitting I hope to add a few extra days to explore the Alvord Desert or other surrounding areas.

A trip to the Pueblo Mountains would be my first. My previous hiking and backpacking experiences in SE Oregon are limited to Hart Mountain NAR and the Steens.

Let me know if interested!

Looks like a great trip! Unfortunately, I'm backpacking in Yosemite that week.
