this one is buried deep in my bucket list. Would love to visit the falls but its a long drive for a day trip.

But it's just soooooo tempting.
Hell, I'd even stay a night in the woods if it was necessary. String up a hammock for a few hours. Nights are short in late spring/early summer. Defazio, Merkley and his wife all made it. So even if it's hard it has to be somewhat doable by amateurs. Though I'd never want to do it in late summer or when it's dry. I saw that on one tv show about it and thought it's just not worth the effort without the water cascading over the staircase. And someone probably needs to know how to actually get there.. :?
The Oregon Coast needs some sherpas..

I'd be up for a trip down there if it can wait until May or June, like Frodo Baggins though "I don't know the way" ;)

I'd pitch in a $20 share for an experienced guide ;)

I'm in. I've heard about this place and am interested in checking it out.

Isn't that what SAR is for?

BTW I'd be interested in a visit.

$50 each for a chopper?
May or June would be the prime months I'd think. Hillsides should be a bit more dry for traction but still enough water in the creek for what we'd want to see. And those longer days make for a little more of a margin for error. Or a shorter night for a bigger error..

I am planning on going to the Devil's Staircase sometime this spring. My plan is to go down Fri. eve and car camp at the jump off point. Saturday visit the fall and then head further south and see the Upper Rock Creek falls that Forester wrote about in January. Home Sunday eve.

I can't find a map that shows the exact position of the falls but I am sure I have it within a 1/2 mile. The terrain is not that steep and the road is actually quite close to the creek, so I am thinking that it's reported difficulty in way overstated.

If you guys like my plan let me know, otherwise tell me when you are going and I'll see if I can adjust my schedule.

At least approximate directions in Sullivan's Atlas of Oregon Wilderness.
