Visiting on 7/3 - 7/5 (or 7/6): Would like to try a hike

Hello Hikers,

I'm visiting Portland this coming week for a job interview. I would like to try a hike and see what it is like in Portland. Are there any hikes close to town where someone can get to without a car? Would anyone like to hike on the 4th during the day sometime? My skill level is probably medium in that I can do about 7 or 8 miles comfortably right now. I'm from the southwest so I'm used to dry and hot. I prefer ridges to valleys but I don't know much about what is available in Portland.
