HikerDave, are you on facebook? If so, the PortlandHikers and Oregon Hikers and Climbers groups can be good resources for trip reports from people who've done the whole route this season. Someone posted this great account from their trip around the mountain on July 7: https://elevationchanges.com/2021/07/07 ... LNfZqPTcTs

I'm hoping to be out there myself in August, so I've been looking out for these types of reports!

HI all:
What do you recommend for food storage on the trail.
REI has a Armored Outdoor Gear Ratsack Cache Food Storage Bag, similar to the URSACK but not as much money.
Best advise on this topic with 3 weeks to go.

Thanks
Dave

I usually skate by with food in a stuff sack hung on a line as high as I can reach. For the most part it is ground squirrels and camp robbers (gray jays) after your snacks, but there are bears on the mountain. IMHO, if you're going to buy creature-proof food storage, better to buy something bear-proof so as not to have to make an additional purchase at some future date when you venture into clever/fearless bear country.

last year there was a water spigot at Cloud Cap, and an out house

maybe you should treat the water?

I was wondering about this. The USFS has said no water at cloud cap I think for a few years but I have always found the spigot running. Is the water unsafe or just not tested? I drank it straight last year with no ill effects. This year I didnt check, just filtered water from tilly jane creek.
