Hello,
I'm currently living in Bend and am working towards getting back into backpacking. I've done a few multi-day trips over the years in Glacier Peak Wilderness, Gifford Pinchot Wilderness, the Olympics and the Deschutes and Willamette National Forests. I'm 52 years old, have a wife of 20 years and am the servant of and warm-blooded furniture for two cats.
Over the past few months or so I've been connecting with online forums and FB groups in order to gather intel on backpacking in general and also destination areas that I am interested in. I first began backpacking in the 1980's when I was a young teenager. It was in my mid-late teens when I purchased my REI membership.
Anyway, I'll be around...
Expanding my online (and real) backpacking footprint
Re: Expanding my online (and real) backpacking footprint
Welcome! This site has many backpackers, even if most of the conversation tends to center around day hiking. Asking questions will certainly prompt some kind of response, even if it's "I don't know, but have you tried...?" Anyway, if you enjoyed backpacking as a teen, there's a very good chance you can find enjoyment in it in your fifties - with a few modifications. I'm 67 and still love to do multi-day backpacks, but my pack is much lighter than what I carried at age 27.

Me, too.
Believe it or not, I barely ever ride a mountain bike.
