Hey all--
I feel bad having lurked so long via Google searches for new ideas. Been in Portland 20 years now, grew up backpacking and canoeing in Alaska. Have finally gotten over the oppressive Doug Fir landscape as a kid who grew up hiking above tree-line exclusively in the Chugach. Family backpacker now as I bring two young kiddos into the woods to learn some tricks. I am also a grad of NOLS so carry some of those habits with me too (aluminum fry-bake pans are extensively used along with the famous Gado-Gado recipe for dinner.)
In Portland, most of my time backpacking these days is two or three trips a season balanced against other family commitments. Thanks for all your posts. I am going to go over and share some details from my weekend trip now.

welcome
I too like to get above the Doug Fir.
Lots of alpine areas on Mt Hood, St Helens, Adams, Three Sisters, Wallowas, Trinity Alps,...
