Newcomer to Portland

Post by 3GatosPDX » June 17th, 2019, 9:05 am

Hello,

I recently moved to Portland from California and I'd love this forum's advice on their favorite weekend (2-3 night) backpacking trips within a 2 hour drive from Portland. I'm a seasoned backpacker and I've been doing 3-5 trips per year in the Sierra and along the CA coast. I usually like to do loop/lollipop hikes, but not opposed to out-and-back treks, at about 10 miles/day. Nothing requiring axes, crampons, etc, please! :)

Thanks!
Daniel

Welcome!

Advice, in no particular order:

Loowit Trail around Mt. St. Helens
Timberline Trail around Mt. Hood
Badger Creek Wilderness
Siouxon Creek
Foggy Flat (a little bit more than 2 hours)
Indian Heaven Wilderness

And there's a lot of great stuff down around Mt. Jefferson, but that's in the 2.5+ hour range.
