Beginner hiker here!
I moved to Portland from Astoria, Oregon a few years ago. I'm originally from Boise, Idaho.
I love Oregon and have done lots of exploring. I've never really considered myself a hiker, more of a scenery gazer, and if that meant walking a few miles to catch a great view, then that's what I'd do. I've recently been really interested in hiking as a way to improve my overall health. Most of my time in Oregon has been spent along the coastlines, so I'm really excited to see more and more of the beautiful mountains and waterfalls in the area.
I spent last week hiking in the Mt. Hood area, Bald Mountain from Top Spur Hike to be precise, and LOVED it.
A few thing about me to note:
I have awful asthma- part of a cluster of health related issues stemming from an awful run with West Nile Virus (yes, it's a real illness). I've been fighting WNV since 2006 and have health relapses now and then that make activity painful and difficult. That said, I'm determined to keep moving forward- hiking being such an inspiration to do so. Making it to a viewpoint and pushing myself to complete a hike is such an exhilarating experience for me.
**That said, I'd be a great person for others with asthma or chronic pain to hike with. **
I love this sight and have bookmarked a number of hikes that I'm ready to conquer!
I'm an artist, I work for a non-profit in Portland and I have a beagle... the beagle part being more important than the others, of course.
Cheers and thanks for reading.
Salutations!

Thank you!
Re: Salutations!
This is a friendly place. Welcome. You can learn about a lot of trails from the trail reports and decide which ones look fun, then go to the Field Guide and get the details on how to find it, etc.
Re: Salutations!
Yeah, thus far, it's been a great experience! Reading trip reports has been very inspiring for planning trips this summer. Woohoo!
