crayfish on Souther crk

Post by chameleon » August 25th, 2009, 9:33 pm

Well, I went up to Sweeney falls last week, hoping to get a good photos of Sweeney and the upper falls just beyond. Unfortunately, the flow was almost non-existant! However, the stream was full of life. There were small trout everywhere, an owl scoping things out from above, and I even found one of my favorite crustacions - a crayfish (sp?). After a bit of corraling, I caught the gentle little fellow. I tried to get a photo of it on a rock, but it wouldn't stand for it. It did however let me get a few shots in shallow water.

There were also raccoon tracks everywhere. Some coon obviously found a gold mine on this creek, given the fish trapped in little pools and the crayfish.

Here's a photo of my attempt at getting a pic of it on a rock.
