Abandoned trail segment from Mitchell Point to Viento

It's possible to walk from Mitchell Point to Viento State Park using the powerline access roads, sections of the Chetwoot and Wygant Peak trails, and a 1/4 mile segment of abandoned trail. The route is 4.2 miles. The powerline access roads are now in great shape because BPA refurbished them when installing the new powerline towers. The Chetwoot trail is fine but getting a bit overgrown with poison oak and the Wygant Peak trail is now in excellent condition.

The 1/4 mile gap is rough terrain that includes a steep scree slope and a rock outcrop but an abandoned trail connect the ends of the two powerline roads. The trail is partially overgrown and the trail prism is narrow at spots but the tread is obvious. It could have been a high quality trail at one time. Perhaps it goes back to when the old powerlines were installed.

Would anyone have memory of this trail when it was in better shape?

There's some beautiful scenery there, but yikes, some of the worst poison oak and tick infestation I've ever seen.

Yes, the place is cursed with poison oak and ticks. Have you ever tried hiking up one of the ridges near Viento State Park to get to the top of Wygant Peak?

Yep, the NW ridge is fun, with several nice variants.
