The "old map" I am talking about is the USGS 15min or 30min that was available in the late 1950s. I don't recall it having any vegetation overlay but it might have. My fading memory has them as being all sort of sepia. Still looking for mine and will probably visit the OSU Library Map Room this afternoon.

This one, maybe?

That might be the one I am remembering.

Just visited the OSU Library. All of their historic maps have been moved to "Special Collections" and you need an appointment to get in. They DID send me a copy of the 1961 map, and the Indian trail was no longer shown on that map.

Also got a PM from Walkin' Fool who did not want details exposed to Instagram. She was up there last summer. She confirmed the trail situation at the north edge of that saddle, pretty much consistent with what has been written.

I will continue looking for my older map.

Best wishes and really appreciate everyone's input and ideas.

Jim

Here is the map I was looking for. USGS 1930 Mt. Jefferson 1:125000 reprinted 1948. Have fun!

Many years ago I attempted to find the old trail that ran from the summit of Minto Mountain to Lizard Ridge and beyond where it would have intersected the Hunts Cove Trail. No luck, but the day was running short and I vowed to return...which I haven't. Steep, rugged, and isolated corner of the Mt. Jefferson Wilderness. I did make it to Bingham Lake and poked around Bingham Basin a few years later, but sometime I need to get back up there and do some more exploring.

Years ago (40 ish?) I did a loop from Hunts Lake. I don't recall the details very closely, but fading memory says that I climbed the craggy ridge NE, up to the bench, over the ridge south of Goat (Pk / Mtn?) perhaps dropped down into Hole in the Wall Park (a marsh!)(not sure which trip I did that), climbed back up onto The Table, south to the trail in discussion, and then back to Hunts Cove. I recall it being one of the really memorable, ultra scenic trips, but was really glad to be done with it!
