Snag Creek to Sedum

Post by Sugar Pine » May 23rd, 2017, 7:48 pm

Hiked up Snag Creek and down Sedum Ridge Trail on Sunday. We parked on CG 2070, hiking south on the PCT to the Snag Creek Trail. Got wet crossing Snag Creek. We could have driven further up CG 2070 or taken CG 2000 to the PCT and avoided the creek crossing. The trail was overgrown with quite a bit of blowdown, but was fairly well flagged most of the way, even past the "bench" and viewpoint. We found two numbered posts, "1" and "2" along the trail. We hit snow at about 2800' and continued to hike in the snow up to FR-41, along the ridge, until we started down the Sedum Ridge trail. The Sedum Ridge trail was free of snow, but it was even more overgrown and had larger trees over the trail than Snag Creek. The trail was fairly easy to follow, being very wide (maybe an old road) even though there was no flagging and the tread was difficult to see. Popping out on CG 2000, where our other vehicle was parked, it was nearly impossible to see the trail from the road.

Thx for the trip report on these 2 trails, nice loop. Sorry to hear they are in need of some love. Are the signs along Snag Creek gone?

Nice to see a report on that loop. The posts are new since I did that loop a few years ago. I assume you could find the Snag Creek Trail through the clearcut off the first logging road?

Thanks for the trip report. Trying this one out possibly in the am to mowich butte and loop back via the PCT south. I did the pct north via Rock Creek trailhead a couple weeks ago to the snag creek trail junction with the pct.
