I just watched the Oregon Field Guide episode on canyoneering, so I think I finally get what you guys are up to. Do you bring along a wetsuit and helmet on every trip? Looks pretty intense.

No, I'll bring a little shortie wetsuit if I think I'm definately going to have to swim - such as on Eagle Creek in a few places for instance (under high bridge, punchbowl, and after metlako), but generally not. I do try to remember my helmet though. Many gorge waterfalls are over some pretty crumbly strata, and a helmet is a must - not only does it help in the case of falling rock, it can save your noggin if you take an accidental dive in the stream!

Zach,
Thank you for your help. Is it possible to shorten the approach by taking the Augspurger Mountain trail and avoiding the hike over Dog Mountain?
