My only trip in there we found the big tree. The two huge cedars nearby are visible on google earth.

I only discovered the area about 2 weeks before my trip down. Anyways, I finally finished processing my photos from Big Bottom (and the old growth forest on the Salmon River). Here's a link for that.greenjello85 wrote:Somehow I've never heard of this area! Great report & thanks for sharing

I'm guessing the same person who named this creek just to the east of Big Bottom:Man- who named that place that and why!
...though I'm guessing this name was sanitized by the USFS from the original name.... and that's no ####!

Re: Big Bottom - 5/5/2015
Does anyone have a GPS coordinate for the big cedars they'd be willing to share privately? I've visited big bottom a number of times and haven't had any luck finding them. Went out there yesterday and explored down a user trail that I believe is the right one, followed some flagging downhill a ways towards the river, crossed a side-channel and navigated around a blowdown patch in a younger douglas fir grove. We made our way towards the river from there and ended up in a swampy area that had a lot of cedars but we didn't see the really big ones. It was very dense down there and we were getting tired so we headed back.
