Eagle Creek Trail 501 to Plaza Trail 781 Connector

Post by Motz » May 15th, 2022, 10:20 am

According to this old map:
101AF7EC-281B-4098-97BD-666BC2838630.jpeg
Eagle Creek Trail 501 has a branch near its eastern end ending at the Plaza Trail 781.

I did not find trail remanents, but I would like to confirm that the ridge east of the depicted trail branch is passable. 05/13/2022, snow at Eagle Creek level and again starting at approx. 3500 ft el.

This off-trail segment should increase the hike patterns in this area, especially shortening some lollipop loops starting at various trailheads.

Here's a 12-year-old trip report about a loop using that same ridge. No mention of any trace of a trail. If there was a trail there, it disappeared long ago and perhaps was not frequently used anyway.

And the original post by pablo which mentions the trail but confirms its extinction:

Please post if you end up climbing that ridge. Curious how it is.

I climbed the eastern leg that day and roughly returned on Pablo‘s way which felt less steep.
