Re: Rock Lakes loop from Shellrock trailhead 8/30

... and over. I like to see new places every time I go out and the "new" Pacific NW is kind of brutal for solitude seekers on very limited weekend warrior schedules. I miss the woods of 5-10 years ago. :(

Re: Warrior Point, Sauvie Island - 2016/05/08

I've always wanted to go duck hunting there but I hear the lines are long for the only few blinds and its first come first served. You can apply for reservations - if successful, you're assured of a place on a specific unit. You can also show up in mid to late morning as hunters check out, and then...

Re: Warrior Point, Sauvie Island - 2016/05/08

Hunting wow, for some reason I didn't think there would be hunting out there. I'll remember to put on some orange! The singular reason that 11,000 acres of exploration opportunity exists is because the Oregon Dept of Fish & Wildlife began acquiring properties there circa 1930 and continuing through...

Re: Warrior Point, Sauvie Island - 2016/05/08

One of my favorite hikes, though I dislike the $10 fee. For easier access to the north point, go along the beach to the old gun platform. Behind the old gun platform you will find an old track that leads to the old road you took on your way back. At super low water ...

Re: Warrior Point, Sauvie Island - 2016/05/08

A fun little 8 mile hike and a nice change from our usual Sunday haunts, next time though we will come here in the fall when the river level is lower which could allow for more beach walking and perhaps some more exploring of the old ...

Wonderful place despite it's popularity. Great reminder and great photos. Especially the birds and the dessert!
