Re: Eagle Creek Fire Damage Photos (9/20/2017)

... The front of Yeon Mountain. Everything looks pretty dead, and the top of it is just incinerated. Looks like the summit of Nesmith (behind, upper left) got a bit roasted on the east side, but the west side looks ok. http://image.oregonlive.com/home/olive-media/width960/img/oregonian/photo/2017/09/24/-6170a9cb87deae38.JPG ...

Re: Eagle Creek Fire Damage Photos (9/20/2017)

... Nick Eaton Ridge doesn't look too bad; Angels/Devils area looks mostly spared, save for AR itself. Herman Creek and Bell Creek looks promising. Nesmith Point and Benson Plateau will have a lot of open views? Benson especially may become more interesting destination, with west side all open but ...

Re: Eagle Creek Fire Damage Photos (9/20/2017)

... area. It looks like the recently restored section of the old Gorge highway took some damage here. The trail to Elowah Falls (same trailhead as Nesmith) was already prone to slides - TKO and PCTA did major work there this year - so that is probably another mess, along with the lower portion ...

Re: Eagle Creek Fire Damage Photos (9/20/2017)

... one is indeed looking at the NE Buttress of Yeon. It's sad to see how high the burn areas go up into Tumalt Creek; considering that all the wild Nesmith off trail routes require ropes anchored to trees, I wonder if there are enough trees left? http://www.oregonhikers.org/forum/download/file.php?id=65975&mode=view ...

... green and unburned. Gives me hope, at least! IMG_3598.jpg View from Beacon Rock State Park picnic area. I think this is in the vicinity of the Nesmith Point Trail, but I'm not certain exactly where. I was struck by the alternating bands of green trees, trees with reddish, burned needles, and ...

Re: Eagle Creek Fires from Table with Kep and Bos 9/10/17

... It shouldn't have been surprising, but it really was astonishing to see how barren much of the Gorge is. (The face of Nesmith especially is going to be a sore sight for the eyes - I think even St. Peter's Dome burned.) And to see how much active fire is still happening ...

Re: upper Munra ridge

... you can descend straight down, it is easy scrambling. Obviously if you come up over Wauneka Point, you get a great loop and miss the less exciting Nesmith Point trail... I have also gone around the east side of the prow without any trouble (there is a steep game trail rejoining the ridge) and I ...

Re: upper Munra ridge

... I'm guessing either way will get you there if you're determined to put up with the bushwhacking. Kind of reminds me of that unclimbable step on Nesmith Ridge where left bypass = right bypass = misery.

upper Munra ridge

... my curiosity. I descended the Munra Point ridge from it's highest point near the BPA power corridor to the viewpoint, to I 84. I ascended via the Nesmith Point trail then east on the Moffet creek trail (camped at McCord creek) crossed the BPA corridor, turned left on the access road and then northeast ...
