Re: 2021 Snow Level
5/15, heading east on FR60 from 65, road becomes impassable about 1/4 mile from Crest Camp/PCT. Well, there were some tire tracks so maybe somebody got a little farther, but there was also a truck stuck in the snow.

Re: Mount Margaret Loop?
As of October last year, that section you're talking about right past Norway Pass is as it has been for years, so I think it's safe to say it still is there. Obviously people's comfort level varies, but I've hiked that many times, sometimes with an overly large and heavy backpack, and have never tho...

Re: Northern MSH (Vanson Peak/Goat Mt Ridge): Snow-free mid/late June?
Thanks for the info, and good reminder on the road closure. I was thinking it was usually open by mid-June, but especially with this year's snow pack, it certainly might be a bit later!
Thanks again!
Thanks again!

Northern MSH (Vanson Peak/Goat Mt Ridge): Snow-free mid/late June?
Hello! Obviously it's different every year, but does anyone know if the northern MSH area, specifically Ryan Lake to Vanson Peak over the Goat Mt ridge is often/sometimes/never snow-free the middle to end of June? Thanks!

Trout Lake Preserve field guide update?
Hello! The RV Park apparently no longer allows people on their property. Immediately after the observation platform and the trail junction that goes up to the switchbacks, there's a chained and padlocked gate with a no trespassing sign. They've even blocked off the area on either side of the gate, s...

Re: Overnight parking at Johnston Ridge Observatory?
Hmm, that is interesting. I did specifically tell the gal on the phone I had backcountry permits and that's why the car would be left overnight. Maybe I'll leave a note with my reservation number on it on the dashboard just to be safe.

Re: Overnight parking at Johnston Ridge Observatory?
Well now I just feel dumb. I tried calling the forest service and couldn't get a live person, but didn't think to call JRO itself.
Anyway, I just did, and they said no problem!
Thanks!!!

Thanks!!!

Overnight parking at Johnston Ridge Observatory?
I have upcoming permits for the Mt Margaret Backcountry. In the past, I've always come in from Norway Pass, but thought I might start from JRO this time for something different. Does anyone know if overnight parking is allowed at JRO? I see on the Forest Service site that no passes are currently req...
