Herman Creek Trailhead closure starting July 28th
The release states the closure is for 'several weeks' which is vague enough to mean most any end date. Looks like they are going to address the root rot problem plaguing that area. I would guess that parking below and hiking in will not be an option while they are removing trees. To bad they couldn'...

Re: Hells Canyon: 7/8/20-7/9/20
I am not sure what's more impressive. The views or the fact you drove and hiked that many miles for an overnight backpack :D . I haven't been to that part of the Western Rim Trail but have done the part out of PO Saddle. Guess I'll have to make a trip there now too. It looks like the South end is mo...

Re: Happy Birthday!
This weeks total: From the JS Burres trail: jsburres.JPG It's always fun to look at a map to try and figure out where these might originate from. With the prevailing West wind and up river wind my guess on this one is The Dalles. From Trapper Creek: trapperck.JPG Something else I stumbled across in ...

Re: Oxbow park and Collins hot springs
Interesting. Their map shows the hot spring in the middle of the river now. You wonder if maybe the Sandy rearranged itself and buried the hot springs or you have to wade out into the river to find it.

Re: Long distance hiking through eastern Oregon in May
You might want to read through this guy's trip report which covers some of the area you are going to be traveling through. Interesting read. Seems like the logistics of resupply are a bigger challenge then the actual walking. A few notes: Late April and May are the prime river rafting times on the O...

Re: Road to Grassy Knoll gated (from Carson)
Here's a PDF that shows what roads are theoretically closed seasonally. There's a whole section under 'Seasonal and Special Vehicle Designations' for closed roads. One of the roads listed is your 6808 (official name 6808000). Some must be gated while others are probably not. Interesting section in t...

Friday 1/3: Happy Birthday: IMG_0997 copy.jpg From: IMG_0998 copy.jpg One wonders with all of these posts of found balloons along the narrow corridors for hiking trails how many more are out there off trail. Must be hundreds  . I wonder if rubber balloons (latex?) biodegrade better than mylar J...

Bridge of the Gods Breezeby
If you are a cheapskate like me and have been using those green coupons for half price passage across the BOTGs that is about to change. Starting 1/6/2020 the Port of Cascade Locks if implementing the same Breezeby transponder model to cross the BOTGs that the Hood River bridge has been using for ha...
