Re: MSH: Blue Lake to Castle Ridge, 9/6/2020

Cool! I went to Castle Lake the day before, by a different route than you and wondered about access from above. From what I've read the trail is in pretty bad shape, and the few reports I read seem to indicate it's best to just stay on top of the ridge or use the old road on the West side of the rid...

Re: Tatoosh Peak

Well maybe Gaia is wrong. I think it took me about 5 1/2 hours to get to the summit. I guess I'm just slow.

Re: Olympic NP: Grand, Cameron, Gray Wolf Loop (Sept. 4-7, 2020)

Hey Robin B! Thanks for sharing your trip reports from last year. Must be a wonderful walk up memory hill. I like how memories get "seasoned" over time, and you mostly remember the good parts, and laugh at the struggles and discomfort. I have some oldies that I've considered posting myself. Maybe I'...

Tatoosh Peak

Tatoosh Peak is the namesake peak in the Tatoosh Wilderness, just south of Mount Rainier. The Tatoosh trail is about 9 miles long and there are two trailheads, so you could do this as a shuttle hike. Most people use the north trailhead off FS 52, it's a shorter hike with the Tatoosh Lakes as their f...

High Rock Lookout near Rainier is getting a makeover

The High Rock Lookout is being restored by the Sand Mountain Society who have restored the Sand Mountain and Gold Butte LOs.

Just wondering, has anybody hiked around the rest of the Sawtooth Ridge where this lookout is situated? It looks very inviting from near and far!

Re: Scat ID

Cascadia Wild has been operating motion sensored critter cameras up on Mt Hood for the past five years or so. I'm helping maintain one on Gnarl Ridge this year, one of 18 cameras up in the MHNF. We also collect scat, and will send it in for DNA analysis if it has the possibility of belonging to one ...

Crabtree Valley is awesome! I went back this spring and the roads are in good condition until the slightly rugged last mile. It is about an hour drive from Sweethome.

Re: 2021 Bug Conditions Reports

Just curtailed our Mt Adams trip because of the worst, most voracious mosquitoes ever! 7/12-13. Divide Camp TH to High Camp area, north side of Mt Adams. Bugs incessant all day from the TH at 4650 to our high pt at 7200 ft. Wore bug bafflers the whole time, sprayed our clothes with deet, and they we...
