Re: Three Fingered Jack backpack, Sept. 2021
Great report and excellent photos, Gordon! My one and only time on that trail was a bit early in the season (seeking flowers, like everyone else that day) and I lost about 2 quarts of blood in the process -- so you made a good call in heading up there when the bugs have faded. I'm going to guess tha...

Re: The worlds largest Christmas Trees. Goat Marsh - Toutle Trail - Red Rock pass
Great report and video! Predominantly Noble forests are among my favorites in the life zones as. you work your way up toward the tree line on Mount Hood. The Dollar Lake Fire showed them to be pretty vulnerable to fire, so that underscores the rarity of the groves at Goat Marsh. There was once an an...

Re: Lamberson Spur, passing of a favorite -- 08/29/21
Nice report, Rob! In your photo looking down from the Timberline Trail -- did you follow the crest of the ridge with the scarp/talus along its north side? I've never seen a plan for where the Lamberson Spur Trail was intended to connect to the TT before construction was unceremoniously stopped (back...

Re: Cloud Cap to Gnarl Ridge (August 23)
I love this trip report, it's been awhile since I have done that hike. Thanks, Janice! Seemed longer to me this time... possibly because I'm just getting too damned old..? Don, my wife and I FINALLY made it to the Bristlecones in the White Mountains a couple of years ago -- and yes, I had the...

Cloud Cap to Gnarl Ridge (August 23)
Another favorite hike that I haven't done in a few years -- on the dry side of Mount Hood! This hike also passes the high point on the Timberline Trail, at just over 7,000 feet. One big change in recent years? The "permanent" snowfields that used to be part of hiking this section of trail are nearly...

Re: Vista Ridge to Elk Cove (August 8)
I'd say 50/50 algae & reflected vegetation... pretty stagnant this year with the heat up there. What's this 99 Ridge you refer to? That's the unofficial name for the ridge/wall along the west side of Elk Cove that extends up to Barrett Spur. It should have made it onto USGS maps, as it has been in u...

Re: Wobbly Lake, Camp Creek Falls and Valley Trail
Thanks for posting, Chris! This hike is new to me -- my sole visit to the area was Burley Mountain many years ago. Looks like a very nice hike with a bit of everything!

Re: 15 Mile-Fret Creek - Divide - Lookout Mt Loop
Thanks, Chris -- that's such a great loop! Nice that you had minimal crowds, too. That used to be standard over there, but I guess the growth of Hood River as a distance suburb of Portland is putting more folks on those trails..?
