Re: Pole Creek Burn Area on Three Sisters Loop

Is there a specific place where they would list if there were a camping restriction? I'm not seeing anything on the Forest Service website for the Pole Creek Trailhead, nor in their "Alerts and Notices" section, and they don't say anything about a camping restriction on their Summer Trail Access and...

Re: Memaloose Lake and South Fork Mountain 061718

Thank you Don for posting this up. I have never done this hike, read your post and 30 minutes later my 8 year old and I were in the car and on our way. The potholes were a little shocking when I first hit them because the road had been so good up until then but once I saw the first ones I knew what ...

Re: 4-7 Day Backpacking Trip w/8 yr old Recommendations

20-50 miles any time in the summer with the only requirement being no touch water crossings or height exposure - that leaves a ton of options. You might take a look at the recent trip report from Enchanted Valley in the Olympics. That's a little closer than Eagle Cap. Lewis River might be good too ...

Re: 4-7 Day Backpacking Trip w/8 yr old Recommendations

Late August Sandy River crossing can still be difficult Trail around Three Sisters has few stream crossings, that would be pretty epic. A number of variations. This looks like an amazing trip. Thank you for the suggestion. I saw a post where someone referenced a write up you did where you recommend...

Thank you Jerry, I was already leaning against that trip and your experienced opinion has helped me decide. I will look into the Three Sisters trip for sure. I really appreciate your input on this.

4-7 Day Backpacking Trip w/8 yr old Recommendations

I have a son who will be 8 in a few weeks and one of his favorite things is backpacking. He has excellent endurance so I have to keep reminding myself that he is still a kid when planning trips because moderate mileage for an adult isn't a problem for him (8-10 mile days). Every year for his birthda...

Re: First multi-day trip - PCT Cascade Locks area, Aug 6

I believe there are some very nice backpacks along the shores of some of the Great Lakes. Not a lot of EG, but plenty of mileage to see how the gear and weight work out. We're booked for an overnight shakedown next week in an area that has a campsite at the end of a 4 mi. trail, which my kid can to...
