Castle Canyon Hike (12/31/2023)

Headed up to the Mt Hood area for New Year's and hiked Castle Canyon via the West Zigzag Mountain trailhead which added a pleasant, easy stroll before climbing steeply up Castle Canyon. After checking out the Pinnacles Viewpoint we decided to explore the trail heading northwest from the saddle above...

Hidden Falls and Sturgeon Rock (12/28/23)

Took advantage of the lack of snow to hike a loop below Silver Star to Hidden Falls and up Sturgeon Rock. At the Appaloosa - Tarbell junction were Timber Sale Boundary signs, with the boundary line crossing the Tarbell and then crossing back over. Logging Sign.jpg Hidden Falls looking good. Hidden F...

Eureka Peak Trail, Trail to Nowhere

Spent the night near Trillium Lake, so decided to hike the Eurkea Peak trail. I started on Sherar Burn Road, which was rough, rocky, and narrow, but passable in 2WD. Not sure why I chose this road other than my map showing the trailhead on is Sherar Burn Road. Starting at the bottom of the trail on ...

Multorpor Mountain and Loop 10/23/2023

Should have saved this hike for a clear day, but having snowshoed in the area, I've wanted to hike to the top of Multorpor, so did that and the loop . Recent work on the powerline road, now a fiber cable route, was rather unattractive. Powerline Road.jpg The trail to the summit was pretty easy to fi...

Catalpa Lake via Bonney Meadows Trail 10/24/2023

Spent a couple of days around Mt Hood hiking a few trails I've never hiked before and picked Catalpa Lake. After reading the Field Guide description via Bonnie Meadows, I opted to start the hike at Barlow Creek camp to avoid a ford of White River, given temperatures in the low 40's. I accessed the t...

Re: Pinhead Buttes PCT Hike

Got dropped off to hike the PCT. My husband prefers to bike instead of hike, so he dropped me by pinhead buttes, drove to Olallie and went biking. We explored the lookouts together. Nice to not have to go back and get a shuttle car.

Indian Heaven and Lemei Peak

Attempted to summit Lemei Rock during a visit to Indian Heaven a week ago, but stopped about 35' short of the top. Still a great hike, love Indian Heaven in the fall and my first time up Lemei. Hiked in from the Placid Lake TH and detoured to Wood Lake. Hiked around the lake, although the trail only...

Pinhead Buttes PCT Hike

Hiked a section of the PCT from the Pinhead Buttes saddle to Olallie Lake (one way) and checked out a couple of old fire lookout sites. Hiked up West Pinhead Butte, which still has remains of the lookout tower, but no view. There is a primitive campsite at the top, but 4WD is likely needed to get th...
