Re: Coyote Wall and other bike trails

OKay, I looked at one of the maps more closely and it clarified what will be decommissioned and replaced, and it is all of the Upper Coyote Wall trail, a lot of which does have serious erosion issues. A lot of the new trail will be farther from the cliff edge, but some of it will be closer.

Re: The Cove Palisades State Park - Lake Billy Chinook

This should be good to send another hundred thousand visitors your way! And I just got back from my visit.

Re: Coyote Wall and other bike trails

First of all, the section of trail that closely parallels the cliff is on the Little Moab trail, on lower Coyote Wall. Little Moab takes off from the old Ranch Rd trail low down and then ends on it about half way up the wall. The section pictured in the trail image is all above that, where the Ranch...

Re: New Section Hiker

What my brother did when he was section hiking the PCT was to do trail maintenance events with the PCTA, and then he would meet people who would usually give him rides for some gas money. You have to be a bit creative if you don't have family and friends who will do it for you.

Re: Perry South Campground - Reviewing ALL 63 Sites & Boat Ramp/Dock!

As to the Misery Trail, as a kidless hiker and a former climber who climbed because I liked the thrill of "looking down" - that is a feature, but a problem. Heading for SR momentarily . . .

Re: 2022 and Beyond - Snow Levels

Was up at Falls Creek Falls today. Road and trail are fully melted out. Gate was still closed today, but will open soon. The road does have one enormous full-width puddle. I drove my Subaru through it last year, but would hesitate to dive a low clearance 2WD through it. It won't dry up for a while. ...

Re: Mt Rainier Timed Entry Permits

Rainier is always difficult. It's small in comparison. Olympic NP is vastly larger. But Rainier does have some amazing trails, so it is worth the effort at least occasionally. And remember that there are some trails that are outside of this new system. Rainier will never be a regular spot for me, bu...

Re: Perry South Campground - Reviewing ALL 63 Sites & Boat Ramp/Dock!

Interesting how the preferences can vary. I am planning a visit to the area this coming week for Tam a Lau and Smith Rocks. Was thinking of the state park campgrounds, but I know they are mostly RV parking lots, so this is enticing. But midweek in early spring, I do not want shade, I want sun exposu...

Re: Coyote Wall and other bike trails

On April 1, the U.S. Forest Service will begin work on 2.6 miles of engineered single track from Atwood Road down to the Old Ranch Road Trail. This is odd since Atwood Road and Ranch Road already connect, one is not above the other. My guess is that this will be in the area where the current connec...

Re: Paulina Peak Nordic Ski, March 20, 2024

Thanks for the report. After a summer visit years ago, a winter trip was long on my list, but one reason I never did it was the likelihood of a lot of snowmobiles. I guess timing is everything.
