Great photos, and that lenticular cloud is amazing! What a treat that must have been.
Is that pano from an iPhone 6? My 6s shoots panos that are astonishing considering its lens is the size of a pencil eraser.

Re: Diamond Peak Wilderness, 8/15-8/19
Great TR and wonderful photos! I've done a few day hikes in that area so I recognized some of your locations. It's a beautiful area. Very dismaying about the amount of mosquitoes so late in the summer! Thanks Cheryl. Yeah this was one of the buggiest places I've been, easily on par with Indian Heav...

Diamond Peak Wilderness, 8/15-8/19
1 Diamond Peak is the next major volcano south of the Three Sisters. Its summit sits at 8750’. Unlike most of its Cascade neighbors, Diamond Peak is a shield volcano. This type of volcano tends to build up a broad, flat profile over time compared to the much pointier stratovolcanos like Mt. Hood or...

Re: Lunch ideas for a 7-day trip
I must not be prone to food exhaustion, because I can eat the same thing day after day no problem. For backpacking I like keep things simple by sticking to bagels and peanut butter for lunch each day. Fresh bagels keep well for at least 4 days, longer if the daytime temps aren't too warm. Unlike bre...

Thanks for posting this. Looks like you had great weather for your trip. This area has been on my short list for a long time. I gotta get down there soon. G I have to ask you this... Is your name a reference to Twilight Sparkle from MLP:FiM? Because SparkleHorse is a common nickname the fans give h...

Re: Indian Heaven Mosquitoes?
I'm heading to Indian Heaven next week, any recent bug reports?
Sounds like it's been a fairly bug-free season up there so far, hope that holds!
Thanks!

Re: Recommendations for 3-4 Day Loop in Eagle Cap Wilderness
My favorite trip in the Wallowas is the East Eagle-Imnaha loop, which is also in Lorain's book. It's just spectacular and gives you a great opportunity to bag the summit of Eagle Cap along the way. It also passes through the main lakes basin, which does draw quite a few folks, but that basin is simp...

Re: Wood burning stoves?
I had one of those Coleman Peak 1 Multi-fuel stoves like Pnw.hiker's back in the 80s. It worked OK, but as others mentioned that white gas fuel is pretty smelly & unpleasant. I have a good canister stove. I like it well enough I guess, except for the noise. It makes me feel like I'm on the tarmac at...
