Elk Meadows / Gnarl Ridge 7.16.13

First, a disclaimer! Got all the way up to the "Unknown Pioneer Woman's Grave" before realizing that I had left the memory card for my camera in my PC at home. So today, we get cell phone camera shots (no zoom, no focus)...sorry in advance! Started at the Hood River Meadows Trailhead, with only a co...

Re: Coldwater Peak from Johnston Ridge 7.10.13

Aaron, when you hiked past the arch, did you notice the smell of animal? I could smell maybe elk? most of the way up to the peak. I kept thinking it was horse but knew they weren't allowed up there, then I saw some droppings on the trail. There were four or five times when the "petting zoo" smell w...

Re: Coldwater Peak from Johnston Ridge 7.10.13

Continued... Mt. Adams finally decided to give us a peak and the logs had moved completely to the opposite side of Spirit Lake...so we really felt there wasn't too much to ask for... coldwater16.jpg ...but the views up here just don't ever turn off! I took 200+ photos of five peaks, two lakes and so...

Coldwater Peak from Johnston Ridge 7.10.13

Tried this one a couple weeks back and was rained on, hailed on, nearly blown off the ridge and of course saw absolutely nothing except clouds. Had much better luck of the draw with days off this time around and decided to give it another go! Met up in Clackamas today about 7am and were on the trail...

Re: Mt. St. Helens / Coldwater Peak

I'm bumping an older thread to see if anyone has been back to the summit Coldwater Peak. I'm thinking of heading up there tomorrow. I think I'll throw in the micro spikes in case I encounter snow. Thanks for the TR! Happy I checked this thread last night and saw your post! Was neat meeting you on t...

McNeil Point

Hey everyone! Was wondering if any of you could let me know what the conditions from Top Spur up to McNeil Point are like snow-wise. I read Turtle's report from the 22nd, but honestly I am not familiar with "Tourist Ridge" or the meadows to know what/where the snow is starting and how bad it is. I'm...

Timberline Lodge to Paradise Park...passable?

Hey everyone! I was looking at staying overnight in Paradise Park this Tuesday (7/17) and was wondering if anyone knows the status of the Timberline Trail from the Lodge out to PP. Saw the recent trail report on the conditions of Paradise Park itself, but it was from Ramona Falls up. Looks like PP i...
