Re: Patterson Lk (South Warner Wilderness) 26-Aug-2015
Awesome TR. Wonderful pics. I have always been fascinated by this region, and these are some of the best pictures I have seen. Really captures this unique place. Essentially this is the only part of California that features "Basin and Range" geography, a western outpost of the hundreds of miles of b...

Re: Another loop in the Sky Lakes Wilderness 23-Aug-2015
Great trip report! You have been getting up there a bunch lately. One of the few Oregon wilderness areas I have yet to visit. The mosquito populations being so low is probably pretty bad for the ecosystem as a whole, I would think. They may seem like a mere nuisance to hikers, but they are food for ...

June Lake Waterfall
Hello all, Taking a party hiking up to June Lake tomorrow, and I am curious if anyone else has been there recently. Trying to figure out if the waterfall that flows into the far end of the lake has dried up or not, given how exceptionally dry it's been this summer so far. The waterfall is a really n...

I think the fog actually added a really cool element to that sunset!

Re: Record number of days without rain
I'm bummed 0.03 lousy inches at PDX. TV news said it was 0.02 39 days without measurable rain, nowhere near the 71 day record oh well, I'm moving on to the number of days 90 F and above. So far we've had 16. Record is 24 in 2009. Do you like wildfires or something? Hopefully the rest of the s...

Re: Record number of days without rain
Looks like the Portland airport recorded .03" this morning, breaking the streak. :D http://mag.ncep.noaa.gov/model-guidance-model-parameter.php?group=Model%20Guidance&model=gfs&area=namer&cycle=20130726%2000%20UTC¶m=500_vort_ht&fourpan=no&imageSize=M Hopefully more rain to come in the next few w...

Re: Record number of days without rain
No reason to root for a record dry stretch unless you like seeing all of your favorite hiking spots go up in flames.
We need rain and cooler weather badly.

Re: Indian Heaven's Acres Of Bear Grass
Nice pics!
Unfortunately I think it's only going to be a good beargrass week or two, before they fizzle out thanks to our seemingly endless bout of well-above average weather coupled with the ongoing drought.
How were the skeeters up there?
