Clackamas Fires Roadside Danger Tree Assessment
The Forest Service has completed another phase in their assessment of the Mt. Hood forest affected by the Lionshead, Riverside and Bull Complex fires. This will eventually affect when the public can finally access certain roads and trails. There is another comment period that concludes near the end ...

Re: Bridge to No where
Even though this thread has been inactive for some time there is a update to note. The Forest Service is doing their assessment after the recent fires and they have recommended closing Road 6380120, which I believe means decommissioning what is left of it. They are also proposing closing road 638013...

Another Newbie
Hello, everyone. While I have used the site before I just recently signed on as a member. Until last year, most of my hiking was done to access fishing sites. Yes, I have hike a long ways for some very small trout. Since last year I have hiked just for the sake of hiking and not always fishing. The ...

Re: Strange experience at Frog Lake Day Use area
The concessionaire fees are really a pet peeve with me. It started years ago at Lost Lake where I had to pay a fee to access a public lake, unless of course I wanted to hike in from outside what seems like “their property”. Then I came across it in 2020 at Laurence Lake if you wanted to access the l...

Re: Access to Bull of the Woods Wilderness?
Today I got a chance to stop the Zig Zag Forest Office and finally talk to someone about what is open and what is not. My first question was about access to Laurence Lake to which the employee stated she did not know and to check to call or email the Hood River office, which is closed to visitor acc...

Re: "Oh Boy Forest Camp" and also alternate Round Lake trail on map
That is my pontoon boat and while it has been to the secret lake by carrying half of it in at a time, I normally use a float tube, albeit not the lightweight version you referenced. Thanks for the link to it as it sure could be useful on some longer carries. If I reach the lake I’ll let you know.

Re: "Oh Boy Forest Camp" and also alternate Round Lake trail on map
Yes that would be one of the ways and probably the easiest. Agree that you can reach it and skirt the closed area albeit it would be a long drive. The dirt piles are just before Ogre Creek, that wipe out the old road and they decommissioned that short part before and after the creek. Not sure how br...

Re: The Dogs of Oregon Hikers
Even though Cooper passed away a month ago because of cancer he was a great companion for hiking, fishing, driving and just hanging out with. We will be spreading his ashes at most of the places he enjoyed. One picture is from a beach hike and the other on the trail to Si and Fish Lakes on the upper...

Re: Access to Bull of the Woods Wilderness?
Yes I already contacted the FS as they had a open comment period about the closures and what people wanted and express my two cents. That comment period is now close but perhaps there will have another one. Your right about possible snow, although that should be rapidly disappearing. The Ollalie Lak...
