Oregon Hikers

Rode my bike from Ripplebrook to the Cache Meadow trailhead. Trail was hard to spot, but if you're looking carefully you'll see a "trail" sign visible from the road, and a wide shoulder that used to be parking on the other side of the road. I didn't see any sign of the trail on the lower/west side, ...

Below is a pic I found in a folder with tags "multnomah" and "elevator". Almost certain this is the ridge in question.

September is a terrible time to go slogging through the rubble of Hood's south side, but I wanted to visit Mississippi Glacier before snow comes.

The glaciers looked so healthy in your Avalanche Valley report.

I must say that Rabbit Hole pic is quite enticing.

Loowit clockwise from Ape is one of the most reliable places to see goats, and they often wander towards Abraham.
One of the many fun things about that hike.

Nice report on a great route.
Off-topic question: you observed Goat Rocks melted out. I remember a section of PCT through GR that was always under snow, never melted completely. Are those days gone?

Thanks for the update. We could always use the old route, drive up to the back of ridge and walk the short distance to the top.

I keep thinking that, but wondered if it was a secret we're not supposed to discuss.

I never hiked Aldrich Butte, and with the access problems I figured I never would, but this appears to be a viable distance for me. Do you know if the trail to the top of the butte is passable without too much effort? I remember (I think) when a bold traveler could drive up there. I wonder if that'...
