... when I was new to the area, planning out first wallowas vacation I was trying to get as much information about the 'trail'/bootpath up the matterhorn there. Information online was much more sparse than it is today. I was really pumping the ranger station for any bits of info but they were ...

... as the show evolved. I wished we would have had a time lapse set up to show this. The small bushes next to the trail as we hiked towards the Matterhorn had dozens of eclipsickles, in their shadows, only the size of marbles, and were much smaller and brighter than those on my tent. These were ...

Wallowas- Tram, peaks, lake, pizza

... than 20 people in the area. Day 5 Eclipse Day!!! Petr and I watched the eclipse at the lake. After we got our 98% we packed it up and climbed the Matterhorn. Great day. First time I’ve seen mountain goats. They were on the ridge between the Matterhorn and Sacajawea. Now the down climb. Climbing ...

Re: Wallowas - Hurricane Creek to foot of Matterhorn 05/27/1

Aneroid Lake snotel still has 43 " of snow. The comparison plot for snow water level says it is about 33% above average, but it's been dropping fast. Sound like maybe a bit slower than Mt. Howard. Not too surprising I guess. One of those places that hangs on to it. Going to do some off trail explor...

Re: Wallowas - Hurricane Creek to foot of Matterhorn 05/27/1

I was over there, too, over the Memorial Day Weekend. I did Hurricane Creek like you guys, but turned back where the trail crosses the creek (I could not find an easy way to pass). I attempted Ice Lake - got about 6 miles down the trail (and 6800ft elevation) before the snow made finding the trail ...

Re: Wallowas - Hurricane Creek to foot of Matterhorn 05/27/1

This may be our first report out of the Wallowas in 2017. Thanks! I am always personally interested in the snow situation there and how it is progressing, since this is my favorite area to hike in, bar none. Yeah things may be a little slow to clear this year. Glad I could give you something to loo...
